Onwards to Bird Island
Anchored not far off last night was a large fishing mother ship it was odd to see something without the BAS logo on it! It was almost a full moon and as the wind calmed down around 1am I looked out of my cabin porthole to a stunning sight with the snow covered moutains alluminated by the moon.
Today I am on Gash which on the ship starts at 7am. So lots of cleaning, helping in the galley and cleaning up after meals etc. I got up a half hour earlier and stepped out onto the deck as the sun was coming up. It was very still this morning and the light was beautiful sparkling on the water.
We weighed anchor around 11am and headed off towards Bird Island and South Georgia. Right now we are moving slowly 8.5 knots in heavy fog so our ETA is late at night on Saturday night however, when the fog lifts I am sure we will start going out our usual speed.
There is a dentist aboard who is employed by BAS to go on last call at all the stations each year to look at the incoming winters teeth and sort out any problems. He very kindly did a check up on mine and a polish today so one last chore to do when I get home and it only cost me a beer!
I have an hour left of my afternoon break as I biked 20km in the gym just after lunch so I am going to head off and get some paperwork done including my season report before I am put back to work in the galley.
