My last proper day in the shed
Today was my last proper day in the shed as the Shackleton arrives tomorrow and I have to do a two day handover to the wintering boating officer. So here I am removing the engines from Erebus who is coming north with us for some TLC in the UK at Humber.
It was snowing hard this morning so no diving just lots of packing going on around base and lots of last minute jobs to get done. The shed was at -8 when I came in this morning and the water in the sink was frozen. There are some big drifts of snow at the doors and around the crane and tractor. Time for me to head North 🙂

Who in their right mind would sign on to be the winter boating officer. You definitely got the better deal! – Have a safe passage!

His name is Andy he has done two winters before – 5 years ago. He is signed up for a year so we shall see if he wants to stay more. It a bit of a hassle running the shed in the winter – takes about two hours to get the boat on the water and the engines running. We just left Deception Island heading for Jubany base on the south shetlands.
